The first book(s) I am recommending for this week are the Darkness Series by J.L. Drake. I was in love with this series and it kept me on the edge of my set the entire time I was reading it. I would say this book is for the ages of 17+. It is a romance/mystery series and it is AMAZING!!! I will be going back and doing a formal review of this series sometime soon. Here are the descriptions of these books: DARKNESS LURKS #1 Emily McPhee has struggled to overcome her father’s death...It’s not easy, but Emily finally has the life she wants. She’s an A student at Orange University and has a comfortable home and a great circle of friends. She’s also in love with handsome Orange PD officer Seth Connors. He doesn’t seem to return her feelings, though, so she tells herself his friendship is enough. Jimmy Lasko is a psychopath, and Emily is his greatest obsession…Lasko knows what he wants—what he deserves—and has the deadly skills and unending patience to get it. What he wants is Emily, and he is watching and waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike. That time is coming soon; he’ll make sure of it. A sense of unease settles on Emily, but is the danger real or imagined? When Emily begins hearing noises and suspects someone has been in her house, Seth urges her to get a roommate. But after a search, she realizes a certain attractive cop would be the perfect choice, and Seth moves in. Seth loves Emily, but fears his feelings might make it difficult to protect her. In all areas of his life, Seth sees himself as a protector. He’s determined to keep Emily safe, but he pushes the captivating blonde away in an attempt to stay objective. However, after her stalker makes a failed attempt to capture her, Seth can no longer deny his feelings. With help from Seth’s police colleagues, he and Emily set out to identify the person hunting her before it’s too late. But is it worth the risk to bait the trap with what he wants most? DARKNESS FOLLOWS #2 Emily McPhee is in the clutches of a monster… Despite the protection of her boyfriend Seth Connors and his colleagues with the Orange Police Department, Emily is imprisoned in a basement by her psychopathic stalker Jimmy Lasko. His bizarre behavior adds to her terror, and a video link forces Seth to witness her captivity, leaving him feeling helpless as he, the OPD, and the FBI search for her. Freedom isn’t free, and safety is just an illusion…Though Emily escapes the basement, the threat is far from eliminated. In fact, things she learned while being held by Lasko lead her to believe he isn’t working alone. Lasko is still out there, determined to get her back, and crazier than ever. If he does have a partner, Emily has no idea where the threat might lie or who she can trust. DARKNESS FALLS #3 More than a year after her ordeal, Emily McPhee finally feels safe…Emily’s psychological scars are healing. Things are great between her and OPD Officer Seth Connors, and her biggest problem is the X-rated Halloween decorations her best friend Pete has placed all around her house. If only it would stay that way… Seth senses something isn’t right, but he doesn’t know where the danger is coming from…or why. He’s sure Emily’s neighbor, Travis McKay, is hiding something, and the man pays way too much attention to Emily. To make things even more complicated, a new female officer appears to have her sights set on Seth, and fellow officer Alexander Avery has some sort of connection to a mysterious brothel employee. Seth has a feeling all these odd things are somehow connected—but he knows he’s missing a huge piece of the puzzle. The next book for this week is Gone by Karen Fenech. This is another romance/mystery novel and is for ages 17+. I loved this story. The dynamic between Clare and Jake was amazing. This book also has so many different twists and turns that it keeps you wanting more. I would defiantly recommend this book to anyone who loves a mystery with a bit of romance. Here is the description of the book: FBI Special Agent Clare Marshall was separated from her sister Beth in childhood when their mother tried to kill them. Now Clare learns that Beth lives in the small town of Farley, South Carolina, but when she goes there to reunite with Beth, Clare discovers her sister is missing and that someone in the town is responsible for her disappearance. Clare receives an offer to help with the search from fellow FBI Special Agent Jake Sutton. The offer is too good to refuse, though that is exactly what Clare wants to do. Jake is Clare's former lover, a man she cannot forget, and who has an agenda of his own. Now while Clare tracks her sister, someone is tracking Clare, and finding her sister may cost Clare her life. The next two books for this week are Hitched (1 and 2. Book 3 will be out in a few weeks.) I would say these books are for ages 17+. I have read the first two books and loved them. Because the third book isn’t out yet, I have no idea how the story ends. But I can say that the first two books have defiantly made me so excited for the last book. There is so much give and take with Noah and Olivia that you never know what is going to happen next. The cliff-hangers in both books made me want the next book immanently. I can not wait for the third book to come out. (I will more than likely be doing a formal review of this series.) Here are the description of these books: HITCHED #1 Marry the girl I’ve had a crush on my whole life? Check. Inherit a hundred-billion-dollar company? Check. Produce an heir… Wait, what? I have ninety days to knock up my brand-new fake wife. There’s only one problem—she hates my guts. And in the fine print of the contract? The requirement that we produce an heir. She can’t stand to be in the same room with me. Says she’ll never be in my bed. But I’ve never backed down from a challenge and I’m not about to start now. Mark my words—I’ll have her begging for me, and it won’t take ninety days. HITCHED #2 Arranged marriage? Check. Cocky new husband? Check. It's a marriage of convenience—one I’m determined to keep strictly professional. I can't be stupid enough to fall for this sexy playboy's charm or advances. I have to be strong, even if he is my husband. Except he has a huge cock with an even bigger ego, and his main goal in life seems to be getting me to stroke both. The arrogant bastard is like sweet, sugary candy for my libido. I know he’s bad for me. But I want to devour every wicked inch of him. With his sexual prowess and experience, I know he’ll be explosive in the bedroom. And since we’re stuck together for the foreseeable future—keeping up this marriage charade long enough to turn the company profitable again—I deserve something to look forward to at the end of a long workday, right? What could one little taste hurt? The final book for the week I am recommending is Toward the Sound of Chaos by Carmen Jenner. This book is for ages 17+. It is a military romance novel and is a tearjerker. I loved this story. There are so many dynamics in this book and how the author connects everything is amazing. The story between Ellie, Jake, and her son is amazing. This is defiantly on my top books of the year.
Here is the description of the book: Jake Tucker is broken. At twenty-two, he went in to the Marine Corps a naïve, troubled youth. Nine years and four tours later, Jake finds himself back on US soil, though his mind remains firmly planted in the sands of Afghanistan with the men he left behind. Wounded, chewed up and spat out by war, Jake has only his dog, Nuke, PTSD, and survivor’s guilt to keep him company. He’s lived every day for nine years wondering when it will be his last, but there’s little comfort in the fact that he’s still standing when his platoon isn’t. Ellie Mason doesn’t have time for broken. She’s too busy trying to put food on the table. And keeping up with the demands of her autistic son, Spencer, is sometimes like fighting behind enemy lines. As if navigating the minefields of single parenthood isn’t enough, Ellie finds herself drawn to the quiet Marine who’s just as lonely as she is. But she’s loved damaged men before, and it left her wounded. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Fairhope, Alabama, Ellie and Jake find themselves running toward the sound of chaos. Love is war. Only the strong survive, and surrender is inevitable.

This is an independent review of this book.
“Life is funny like that; it has a way of changing you when you least expect it.” **Contains some spoilers** This book contains a few adult situations. I would advise you not to read it unless you are 17+. Description of book from Amazon: Expect the unexpected. That's what they say, but it's easier said than done. How do you expect a change so huge it rocks you to your core? How do you prepare yourself for an event that will alter your life forever? One breath One second One minute One hour One day at a time, you learn to live with your unexpected reality. Review: I have been waiting for this book since Kaylee Ryan announced it and I was not disappointed! This is a duel point of view book (my favorite kind). The book starts out with Melissa having a night out and letting loose. She meets Ridge at a bar and they end up having a one-night stand. Fast-forward eight months. Ridge is hanging out with the friends and having a good time. They all work construction for Ridge’s company and are a close group of guys. One day Ridge is on the way to pick up the girl he is kinda-not really seeing (this is an important element of the story) and finds a car that has gone over the hillside during a rainstorm. He stops to help and calls 911. Once emergency crews get there, something in his heart tells him he needs to go to the hospital and make sure that the women in the car is all right. Once at the hospital Ridge finds out that the crash victim is Melissa and that she is eight months pregnant. Ridge doesn’t know what to do. Melissa is still alive but in very critical condition. Over the next few days, the doctor’s delivery the baby and Melissa passes away, leaving Ridge as a single dad with no warning. Ridge is determined to give Knox (the baby) the best life he can. While taking Knox to a doctor’s appointment, he runs into Kendall, an old friend of his sisters and a nurse at the doctor’s office. There is an instant attraction between the two of them. A few days later, Kendall is checking on her grandparents’ house that is being remodeled and it just so happens that Ridge’s company is doing the remodel, so they run into each other again. Kendall and Ridge fight the attraction they have for each other. Kendall feels bad that she is starting to develop feelings towards Ridge because he just lost his son’s mother (she doesn’t know the story yet) and she also just got out of a bad relationship. As time goes on, they end up hanging out more and their relationship grows. Kendall finally learns the story of Knox’s mom and of the last girl Ridge was with. Kendall worries that she is a rebound and Ridge is determined to show her that she is anything but. Of course there is a twist in the story. Can the information that Kendall learns about Knox’s birth mother change the feelings that she has for Ridge? This story is a HEA but how they get there is amazing. Overall thoughts: OVARY EXPLOSION!! Who doesn’t love a hot construction worker with tattoos who just happens to be a single dad? (I love my husband BTW, this is just a book boyfriend) I was not prepared for this story. The description left a lot to the imagination but from the book cover, you could kind of get an idea of what the story was about. Kaylee Ryan’s writing kept me so engaged. I am a sucker for a good love story and the way she wrote this book, kept you on your toes to find out if it was every going to happen. I think that the writing was very good. I don’t remember finding and spelling or grammar errors. I feel that Kaylee didn’t drag the story out just to make it longer and kept it interesting the entire way thought. This will defiantly be in my top books that I have read so far this year. Rating: 5/5 stars |
On this page I will be writing book reviews to books that I have read. Most of the books are either romance or mystery. Some of the books are for an age of 18+ and I will post that in my narrative about the book.
