“There is no such thing as bad people. We’re all just people who sometimes do bad things” –Ryle “Sometimes it’s the one who loves you that hurts you the most.”- Lily ** SPOLIERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!** Description of book from Amazon: Sometimes it is the one who loves you who hurts you the most. Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true. Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place. As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened. With this bold and deeply personal novel, Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. Combining a captivating romance with a cast of all-too-human characters, It Ends With Us is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price. Review: SPOLIERS!!!!!!! Lily Bloom comes from a life where she has seen the pain someone will take for the person they love. She watched it happen to her mother for years. Lily meets Ryle, who is a neurosurgeon. They have an instant connection and share a few stories form their pasts but they also realize they have a lot differences. (I instantly liked Lily and Ryle but I felt Ryle had some hidden issues.) Lily finds an old box from her childhood. She finds her old journals in the box, her “Ellen Diaries.” She starts to re-read them, remembering her past. She remembers the love and relationship she had with a homeless boy named Atlas. (Reading her stories from her childhood, I understood Lily more and saw why she fell in love with Atlas.) Lily opens a floral shop. When a woman stops by and asks if she needs help, she hires her first employee Allysa. When Lily gets hurt one day at the shop, Allysa calls her brother to come look at Lily, her brother is Ryle. (They hide the fact that they have meet before, which I never understood why.) As the story continues, Lily and Ryle have this back and forth kind of relationship. They have so much sexual tension but Ryle is trying to be the better person and not use Lily. One night thought, they take it to the next level. While all this is going on between Lily and Ryle, Lily continues to read her old diaries, remembering the love she once had. One night while on a date with Ryle, she runs into Atlas. She can’t believe her eyes. He left her years ago to join the Marines and never returned. Later that night, she reads more of the diaries, remembering how good her relationship with Atlas use to be and wondering why he never came back for her. She also remembers how she first found out her father was abusing her mother, but her mother would never admit it. (I felt in my heart that Lily belonged to Atlas but he was the one who got away. I like Ryle and felt he really was trying to do the right thing, but I always felt that something was off about him.) Ryle and Lily’s relationship begins to grow and strengthen. One night, Ryle burns and then cuts his hand making dinner and Lily laughs a little, not realizing it. Ryle’s arm slams into her, knocking her back into the cabinet. Lily has a flashback of her father hitting her mother. Ryle apologizes and Lily tries to keep from comparing him to her father. She says it was an accident and forgives him. Lily runs into Atlas again and Atlas notices her eye and Ryle’s hand and gets mad, telling Lily she needs to leave Ryle, but Lily claims it was an accident and that everything is okay. (When I first read this part of the story, I truly believed that it was an accident. Accident happen sometimes.) As time moves on, Ryle and Lily grow closer and decide to get married in Vegas. Everything is going good until Ryle finds Atlas’s number in Lily’s phone one day. Atlas had given her his number just in case something every happened she could call him and he would help her. Lily and Ryle argue about it and somehow Lily ends up falling down the stairs. She can’t remember if she was pushed or fell. Lily and Ryle argue and she kicks him out. Ryle gets Lily to talk him and reveals a secret to her. Ryle apologies for pushing her but Lily is having a hard time forgiving him. (This is when I started thinking that Ryle has a problem. But love can make you do silly things.) One evening when Lily gets home, she finds Ryle has been drinking. She then realizes that he has read her diaries. Ryle is acting very strange and being very pushy sexually. Lily is worried he is going rape her and when he tires to fight him off, he head buts her, knocking her out. After she wakes up, she calls Atlas and he comes to get her. He takes her to the hospital to make sure she is okay. Lily finds out she is pregnant. Lily is so frustrated because she loves a man who is physical with her but she is also frustrated because Atlas never came back for her all those years ago. (This is when I realized Lily needed to leave Ryle but I had a feeling she wasn’t because she was pregnant and I knew how important it was to her to have a family. But Lily was being strong and not forgiving him like I thought she would.) Ryle finds Lily at the flower store and tells her he is going to England for 3 months to participate in a training program and that he knows she needs time to process everything, but Lily doesn’t get to tell him she is pregnant before he leaves. Weeks later, Allysa realizes something is wrong and Lily tells her everything. Allysa tells Lily to leave Ryle, even though he is her brother. That Lily should never have to deal with that. (I was shocked that Allysa told Lily to leave her brother. I figured she would try to make excuses for him but she did not and I was proud of her.) When Ryle gets home from England, he finds out Lily is pregnant. Ryle tells Lily he knows he was wrong and wants to get help. Lily is happy he wants to get help but won’t let him live with her. She feels she needs to keep herself and her baby safe. Lily lets Ryle come over and help with the baby’s nursery. She tells him that she will never keep his child away from him but she needs to put the safety of the child first. “Just because someone hurts you, doesn’t mean you can simply stop loving them.”- Lily (I am so proud of Lily for standing up for herself and doing what she needed to do to make sure herself and her baby were safe. You never knew if Ryle was going to have an outburst again and she realized that she could not take that risk.) When the baby comes, they name her Emerson after Ryle’s late brother. Lily realizes she has to do what is best for her and Emerson and asks Ryle for a divorce. He asks for another chance and she asks him what he would say to his daughter if she ever came to him and told him that her husband had done the things to her that Ryle had done to Lily. Ryle understands what she is saying and understands that she needs to leave him. “As hard as this choice is, we break the pattern before the pattern breaks us.”- Lily Lily tells Emerson that the cycle (of abuse) “Ends with us.” Overall thoughts: All I can say about this book was that it was amazing! It took me a few days after I finished reading it to be able to write my review because I was still processing the book. The way Lily deals with the pain from her past and the new challenges in her present is amazing. I have never been a victim of physical abuse but I know people who have and this book shows the struggles of getting out of the cycle of abuse. I laughed during parts of this book and cried during other. It makes you realize that sometimes leaving a situation isn’t as easy as everyone thinks it should be. Collen Hoover outdid herself in this book. It was an emotional roller coaster and was worth every tear I shed while reading it. AMAZING!!!! Rating: 5/5 stars

On this page I will be writing book reviews to books that I have read. Most of the books are either romance or mystery. Some of the books are for an age of 18+ and I will post that in my narrative about the book.
